Join our trial – Your role in tackling air pollution

Are you interested in being part of a new pilot project to explore the vital role health professionals can play in protecting patients against air pollution?

Why?

Air pollution is a health emergency – causing up to 36,000 deaths and over 20,000 hospital admissions every year in the UK. Health professionals can play a crucial role in protecting people’s health from air pollution, and in influencing behaviours to address the problem.

What?

We’re looking for health professionals to become Clean Air Champions, and to take part in a two-month demonstrator project to incorporate air pollution advice into the patient pathway. We’re aiming to develop a nationally implementable approach. We’ve already run a series of workshops in London and Liverpool, but if you weren’t able to join us you can still get involved through a free webinar, in which we’ll cover the following topics: You only need to attend one session in person or online to get involved! Afterwards, you’re invited to join a 2-month trial in which you’ll use the messages and resources we’ve shared in your work to help us to gather info on the best ways to share air pollution advice.  We were joined at earlier sessions by two leading air pollution specialists – Professor Stephen Holgate, the Royal College of Physicians’ Special Adviser on Air Pollution, and Professor Jonathan Grigg, former Research lead of the British Paediatric Respiratory Society and Vice-Chair of the Royal College of Physicians’ working party on air pollution. Before the webinar, we’ll share recordings of the presentations given by Stephen and Jonathan, so you won’t miss out! We look forward to working with you on this exciting project! Due to the increased pressure the current pandemic is placing on health professionals across the sector, the webinars planned to take place in March have been postponed. We understand that, rightly, health professionals across the sector have to focus on other matters at the moment, and we don’t think it’s right to be asking any more of you just now. We hope to reschedule these events in due course.
