As the UK’s relentless heatwaves continue, drought grips more than half of England, farmers warn of the worst harvest on record and food shortages increasingly seem likely ahead, the impact of climate change is easy to see all around us – even if not everyone seems to be making the link. 

Those working in healthcare are already seeing the devastating health impacts that extreme heat and wildfire smoke is having on people. And are doing so whilst trying to care for patients in over-heating buildings designed for a different time and climate.

Whilst this summer is giving us a taste of just how deadly climate change is and will be, we can all play a part in using this moment to galvanise action. To use our voices as healthcare professionals to raise awareness of the grave health risks of climate change and to keep pushing for those in positions of power to take meaningful action.
