Richard Smith’s Commitment
“Everything must change if we are to make an adequate response and, although we might change as individuals, our response will never be adequate without political leadership. I have four grandchildren, and I fret greatly about what kind of future they will experience. For all these reasons how politicians respond to the planetary crisis will decide whom I vote for–in all elections at every level.”
The Commitment focuses on climate change and biodiversity loss, and calls for more attention to be put on bold government action for climate and nature by focusing on urging politicians locally and nationally to put the environment at the heart of their decision making. The Commitment enables voters to influence politicians.
It is important that the views of health professionals are reflected in the messages shared with local politicians, giving them a powerful reason to act on climate and the natural world for the benefit of health.
