Develop and implement a travel policy for members and staff that minimises travel that consumes carbon

Transport is the largest emitting sector of greenhouse gas emissions, contributing 24% of the UK’s total emissions in 2020. As well as contributing to carbon emissions, the transport sector is a major contributor of air pollution. Organisations can take multiple steps to reduce their contribution to carbon emissions, while also promoting and facilitating healthier ways to travel for staff and visitors. For example:
- Providing information and guidance on the environmental impacts of travel
- Providing access to bike storage and facilities for staff and visitors that encourage active travel
- Encouraging staff and visitors to use public transport, and signposting to local network links
- Only flying when there is no other alternative
- Working with local authorities and others to achieve safer streets for active travel
- Holding meetings online when possible
