Health leaders voice concern over reallocation nature restoration fund

The Chair of the UK Health Alliance on Climate Change and President of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh have written to the Scottish Government expressing concern about the reallocation of funding from the Nature Restoration Fund to cover the pay offer to local government employees.

Dr Richard Smith (UKHACC) and Professor Andrew Elder (RCPE) say that they support workers being properly paid, but it is a serious mistake to divert funds from restoring nature, which is essential to our health and wellbeing.

They say that diverting the funds could work against the government’s priority to enable the people of Scotland to live happier, healthier lives, and encourage the government to ensure that the vital resources needed to protect and restore Scotland’s natural environment are met.
