The UK Health Alliance on Climate Change (UKHACC) has submitted a response to the All Party Parliamentary Group for Cycling & Walking (APPGCW) inquiry into active travel and social justice highlighting the critical need for equitable active travel policies and infrastructure.
Our response addresses systemic barriers that prevent many groups, including women, people with disabilities, low-income households, and rural communities, from enjoying the benefits of active travel. It also explores the uneven impacts of poor infrastructure and motorised travel on health and social equity, while showcasing successful initiatives in the UK and internationally.
Key Highlights
- Addressing safety concerns and accessibility barriers.
- Promoting successful initiatives like Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and Superblocks.
- Advocating for financial incentives, regulatory reforms, and inclusive infrastructure to widen participation.
Let’s work together to unlock the health, environmental, and social benefits of active travel for everyone.
